A Woman's Perspective ~ Home Plan Makeover
Betty found her ideal home plan; she made a few tweaks and now it’s perfect!
Homeowner’s Profile: Betty and Rich are retired, but very active empty nesters. A director for their neighborhood association, Rich needed a small office space for record keeping. Both Betty and Rich are
exercise enthusiasts and wanted a private place on the main floor for their exercise equipment. They also host dinner parties and grandchildren sleepovers.

Modifications Betty made to the Karoline, #5508:
-
Squared off and enlarged the kitchen/eating area and the great room, providing a sense of intimacy in both areas along with a large opening to provide a nice flow.
-
Used the extra space in the kitchen to create a large island for prep work and informal seating.
-
Enlarged the 3-car garage for added storage needs.
-
Created a drop zone at the rear foyer.
-
Converted the formal dining room to a small office, creating a coat closet for the rear foyer and a wet bar on the great room side.
-
Used the den as a flex space to accommodate exercise equipment.
-
Added unfinished storage above the garage, which may eventually be used for an informal rec room.
-
Straightened the master bath wall to create a large linen closet.
-
Added a fold-down ironing board to the master closet where the former linen closet had been.
